Communicating the Gospel

It was my turn to lead the devotion in staff meeting this week. During my few minutes of speaking, I reminded the staff that our top priority is to continually communicate the Gospel of Jesus Christ in everything we do. Our purpose for constantly sharing the Gospel is to bring glory to God.

Paul expressed his understanding of publicizing the Gospel this way:

And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
1 Corinthians 2:1-5

Consider the breadth of content contained in that simple phrase—Jesus Christ and him crucified.

The name “Jesus” carries implications related to His humanity. The name also carries the mysteries attached to His coming to us in the flesh.

The title “Christ” recognizes His office as Messianic King; addressing among other things, the fulfillment of the many Old Testament prophecies.

The perfect participle “crucified” has reference to His redemptive accomplishments.

Thus, in one simple phrase Paul reached into the depths of the person, office and work of the Son of God.

Finally, notice that Paul wanted his audience to place their attention on the power of God and not the wisdom of men. Thus, that is why he constantly proclaimed “Jesus Christ and him crucified.”

Spreading the Gospel was a priority for Paul. Spreading the Gospel should also be a high priority for every believer and follower of Jesus Christ.

Allow me to break it down as to how we actuate that call at CrossPoint:

It is my job as pastor to communicate the Gospel every time I preach.

It is Bryan Haskin’s job to spread the Gospel when we sing in worship.
It is Steve Parr’s job to share the Gospel in the administration of CrossPoint ministries.

It is Chris Howell’s job to disseminate the Gospel in the Adult Bible Study ministry.

It is Jason Motte’s job to communicate the Gospel in the Student Ministry.

It is Beth Howe’s job to propagate the Gospel in the Children’s Ministry.

It is Cathy Owen’s job to teach the Gospel in the Pre-School Ministry.
It is Brian Harris’ job to impart the Gospel in the Recreation Ministry.
And, it is every CrossPointer’s job to convey the Gospel with everyone they meet.

Do you see it? Do you get it? Do you understand what we are supposed to be doing?

To break it down even into simpler terms, allow me to express our priority this way: CrossPoint is in the God-glorifying, Jesus-proclaiming, and Holy Spirit-honoring business. And the highest form of doing that comes when we intentionally disseminate the Gospel in everything we do. We must speak the Gospel, live the Gospel, pray the Gospel, sing the Gospel, share the Gospel, provide the Gospel, proclaim the Gospel, honor the Gospel, and ….surely at this point you get the picture.

Get busy communicating the Gospel.
