Relocate and Recreate

My family left for vacation Sunday afternoon. Actually, half of us—Taylor and I—left for vacation Sunday morning after the third worship celebration, while Vonda and Kelsey departed on Saturday with some family friends. We caught up with everyone else for supper Sunday evening.

It’s good to be out of town and away from the office. My family enjoys the uninterrupted vacation time each summer. We look forward to this time off because it renews and refreshes us.

As a friend of mine informed me, vacation is a time of relocation and recreation. The purpose of relocation is to get away from the daily grind that wears on us day after day. A change in scenery helps us appreciate the scenery that surrounds us the remainder of the year. The purpose of recreation is for us to be “re-created” in the image of God during our vacation. I relocate and recreate in order to be the effective leader CrossPoint expects me to be.

The relocate and recreate idea is not original with me. God is the originator of vacation time when He rested on the seventh day of the creation event (see Genesis 2:2). The seventh day of rest would later be called a Sabbath. God reinforces the priority of taking a Sabbath in the fourth commandment—Remember the Sabbath by keeping it holy.

While I am away on my vacation, I promise to pray for you. I trust you will pray for my family as we relocate and recreate.
